Bole all-electric machines slated for US market in January
In its second year as a distributor for Ningbo Shuangma Machinery Industry Co. Ltd., Ningbo, China, Bole North America is going electric.
Bole North America, the exclusive provider of Bole machines in the U.S., is planning to add an all-electric line to its arsenal by January. According to President Todd Kuhn, it will show off a high-speed, 198-ton machine at NPE2018. Called the BL180FE — the 180 denotes its clamping force in metric tons — the new machine is one of seven all-electric models that Bole plans to offer. Each new model will come in two versions — high-speed and standard.
Though assembled in China, the line has “a heavy European design,” Kuhn said. The line, which debuted at Chinaplas, required few modifications for the U.S. market.
Kuhn emphasized the FE line’s center-toggle design, copied from other machines in its portfolio. Kuhn said the patented design, which reduces platen deformation, is what sets them apart.
“Essentially, you get an extra-wide tie bar and mold opening on our design,” he said. With clamping forces focused on the mold rather than the tie bars, the machine can mold with less deflection and reduced energy. Kuhn said larger molds can be used on smaller machines, cutting required tonnages by between 10 percent and 20 percent and reducing the load on the pump, which leads to energy savings. Compared to hydraulics, the all-electrics will require about 60 percent less electricity and consume about 90 percent less water.
The design also helps reduce flash, resulting in material savings of between 2 percent and 5 percent.
To prevent friction and wear, the platen is supported by a linear guide, Kuhn said.
In addition, the center-toggle design makes maintenance easier.
Besides the 198-ton model, Bole plans to offer models with forces of 77, 121, 165, 254, 309 and 386 tons. The standard versions can attain injection speeds of 165mm a second, while the high-speed versions of the lower-tonnage machines are capable of 300mm a second; the three biggest high-speed versions top out at 250mm per second.
At NPE, Kuhn said the BL180FE will perform a battery-seal application in a 5-second cycle time using a 96-cavity mold. “It’s very thin-wall, high-speed molding,” he said.
The FE line is highly precise and quiet, and “perfect for clean-room environments,” Kuhn said. It is accurate to within 0.01mm.
Bole’s other machines for the U.S. market include the company’s EK- and DK-series servo-hydraulic hybrids. Each comes standard with a 12-inch touch-screen Keba control, spare-parts kit and 24-month warranty.
With machines installed in more than 60 countries, Kuhn said Bole has established a global reputation and can fully support North American molders.
